THE PROMISED LAND

STORY

In the 1800s a white farmer named John Dugas owned this land. African Americans who built this community in the 1950s were “people who worshipped the Bible.” Promiseland Community name was adopted by the residents. In the 1950’s Ledet Bar, Dancehall, and Grocery store was developed by Wilbert Ledet, Sr. (veteran sergeant of World War II) and Mildred Charles Ledet.

The family business provided the necessities of those living in the community. It was classified as “a site for social entertainment and grocery shopping.” The Dancehall featured many great musical artists, such as Clifton Chenier; Rockin’ Dopsie; Roi Anthony; Tucka; Oscar Narcisse, Sr. and The Dew Droppers; Fernest and The Thunders. From 1970s through the 1990s, Ledet Bar, Dancehall, and Grocery Store had numerous renovations.

By 1993, the facility was officially named PBDee’s Club Valentine - owned and operated by Coach Wilbert “PBD” Ledet, Jr. PBDee’s Club Valentine is currently used as a multipurpose club for meetings, dances, concerts, parties, and festivals.
